Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
